Medicare Saving Programs

1. SLMB/SLMB-QI (Medicare Part B Waiver Program)
The SLMB program provides assistance with Medicare Part B premiums.

a. Eligibility Requirements: To apply for this program, you must meet the following conditions:
Must be enrolled in Medicare Part A.
Must have limited income and assets.

SLMB Income Limits (2026):
Individual: $19,152 / year ($1,596 / month)
Couple: $25,968 / year ($2,165 / month)
Assets: There are limits on assets such as savings and bank accounts. As of 2026, the asset limit is $9,950 or less for an individual, and $14,910 or less for a couple.

SLMB-QI Income Limits (2026):
Individual: $21,546 / year ($1,796 / month)
Couple: $29,214 / year ($2,435 / month)
Assets: There are limits on assets such as savings and bank accounts. As of 2026, the asset limit is $9,950 or less for an individual, and $14,910 or less for a couple.

b. Required Documents:
Proof of Age (e.g., Birth Certificate, Medicare Card, Driver's License)
Proof of Income (e.g., Social Services Benefit Statement, Pension/IRA statements, Pay Stubs)
Proof of Assets (e.g., Bank Statements, Asset Records)
Proof of Residency (e.g., Utility Bills, Rental Lease Agreement)
Proof of Medicare Part A Enrollment

c. How to Apply: Applications for the SLMB program can be submitted in several ways:

Please apply through the NJ Medicaid Application Portal. You can apply for both Medicaid and SLMB simultaneously.

2. QMB (Medicare Part A Waiver Program)
The QMB program provides assistance with Medicare premiums, deductibles, and copayments.


a. Eligibility Requirements: To apply for this program, you must meet the following conditions:
Enrolled in Medicare Part A
Have limited income and assets
​Income Limits (2026):
​Individual: $15,960 / year ($1,330 / month)
Couple: $21,640 / year ($1,804 / month)
Asset Limits (2026):
​Individual: $9,950 or less
Couple: $14,910 or less

​Proof of Medicare Part A enrollment
Proof of income (e.g., Social Security benefits, pay stubs, pension statements)
Proof of assets (e.g., bank statements, asset records)
Proof of identity (e.g., Social Security card, ID card)
Proof of residency (e.g., utility bills, rental lease agreement)
